道迪和他的同事們精心計算細胞周期進程期間的磷酸鹽添加到Rb的數量。這多達14個,但科學家發現,細胞周期蛋白D只增加了一個單磷酸,且只有細胞周期進程的早期G1期的14個位點中的一個,基本上有14個不同亞型的Rb。單磷酸鹽的作用是激活RB,不使它失活,這個認知已超過了20年。
